Prayers for Strength

I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. I pour out my complaint before him; before him I tell my trouble. When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who know my way. In the path where I walk men have hidden a snare for me. Look to my right and see; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life.

I cry to you, O Lord; I say, "You are my refuge my portion in the land of the living." Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are strong for me. (Psalm 142:1-6)

Keep me at it!!!

Dear God, give me due respect for the abilities you have given to me. Don't let me sell them short. Don't let me cheapen them.
Keep me at it.

Don't let me bury my talents through indecision, cowardliness, or laziness.
Keep me at it.

When people laugh at me, or try to tempt me, let me not be bothered. Return me to my task. Let nothing really matter except these precious gifts you have entrusted to me.

Keep me at it.

Dear God,
You have told me to be joyful, but right now, I am sad. I need your help to turn my sadness into joy. Help me to turn all my problems over to you and help me to change the way I think. Fill my mind with thoughts that are true, pure, right, holy, and friendly. Remind me to thank you for your Son, Jesus Christ, and for your love for me. In my darkest hour, may I be totally surrounded and overwhelmed by your love for me. Take my burdens from me for they are more than I can bear and fill me with your joy and love.
Amen.

Prayers for Parents and Parents-to-be

Father, we thank you for your marvelous gift; you have allowed us to share in your divine parenthood. During this time of waiting, we ask you to protect and nurture these first mysterious stirrings of life. May our child come safely into the light of the world and to the new birth of baptism. Mother of God, we entrust our child to your loving heart.
Amen.

God help us to weave a tapestry of love and not hate in our children, a spirit of tolerance and caring, a dedication to freedom for all and not just some. God help us to sow seeds of peace and justice in our children's hearts today.
Amen

Loving God,
You have given us the privilege as well as the responsibility of being loving parents. In the name of Jesus, we ask you to guide us as we invite our children to hear your call to service and leadership in our Church. May our children respond with deep faith and generosity to the needs of God's people. Help us to be a source of encouragement to our children by our own desire to be committed people who serve with love and enthusiasm.
Amen

This life you have given us is so tiny, fragile, and vulnerable, safe in the womb of flesh and hope, yet subject to danger and death. O God of love, creator of life, hear our prayer. We want this baby so much. Please grant this child of ours a full term of nurture, the joy and mystery of life, and the blessing of your love. Grant us the fulfillment of our dreams, a baby to cherish and protect, a child to teach and guide, a blessing to our family.
Amen.

Prayers for Health

Lord Jesus, you came into the world to heal our infirmities and to endure our sufferings. You went about healing all and bringing comfort to those in pain and need. We come before you now in this time of illness asking that you may be the source of our strength in body, courage in spirit and patience in pain. May we join ourselves more closely to you on the cross and in your suffering that through them we may draw our patience and hope. Assist us and restore us to health so that united more closely to your family, we may give praise and honor to your name. Amen.

Prayers for Volunteers

Dear God,
Somehow, you have picked me to do this great work of yours. Preserving life and helping those in distress. You would not bring me this far and abandon me. I have only to ask for your help. I am asking it now.

Help me to know what to say when I answer the phone, and when I meet your troubled people face to face. Help me to respect the trust they have placed in me. Help me to help them make good decisions. Remind me to always remember the example you have given us that is not to judge, but rather to love and understand.

Let me not forget, there but for your grace, go I.
Amen

May I become at all times, both now and forever
A protector for those without protection
A guide for those who have lost their way
A ship for those with oceans to cross
A bridge for those with rivers to cross
A sanctuary for those in danger
A lamp for those without light
A place of refuge for those who lack shelter
And a servant to all in need.
Amen

Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity. Be fair in thy judgment, and guarded in thy speech. Be a lamp unto those who walk in darkness, and a home to the stranger. Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring. Be a breath of life to the body of humankind, dew to the soil of the human heart, and a fruit upon the tree of humility.
Amen

Prayers for Adoption

We have waited for so long for this child of choice. Bless us with an abundance of your love that we may be good parents, that we may create a home of blessing, that we may encourage this child to the fullness of his/her potential. Bless our child, O God. Give her security in our family, the joy of laughter in our home, and the courage to face the challenges ahead. Let our child know the love we feel so deeply for her, and let this love be a strength to confront the opportunities of life.
Amen.

Father of the fatherless, you give your children a home in which to dwell; and like a loving mother you gather us into your household. We give you thanks for the child who has come to bless this family and for the parents who have taken this child to be their own. By the power of your Holy Spirit, fill (name(s) of parent or parents) with trust, understanding and affection; and, through this child in our midst, enable us better to know the mystery that we are all your children by adoption; through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Amen

Prayers for Courage

Almighty God, whose beloved Son willingly endured the agony and shame of the cross for our redemption: Give us courage to take up our cross and follow him; who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
Amen.

Mary, you heard a voice. You answered, "Yes," risking shame and disgrace, ridicule and rejection. Still, you said, "Yes." Yes, to the promise you received from God. Yes, to the birth of a firstborn son. Let your trust be our inspiration, your faith be our guide, your hope our course for courage. This we ask in the name of the child you bore, the Savior of the world, who came through God's abiding love and your spoken word. Yes. So be it.
Amen.

God is our hope and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Therefore will we not fear, though the earth be moved, and though the hills be carried into the midst of the sea;

Though the waters thereof rage and swell, and though the mountains shake at the tempest of the same.

There is a river, the streams whereof make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
Amen

God, make me brave for life: oh, braver than this. Let me straighten after pain, as a tree straightens after the rain, Shining and lovely again.
God, make me brave for life; much braver than this. As the blown grass lifts, let me rise From sorrow with quiet eyes, Knowing Thy way is wise.
God, make me brave, life brings Such blinding things. Help me to keep my sight; Help me to see aright That out of dark comes light.
Amen

Prayer for Children to Learn

God is great and God is good,
And we thank him for our food;
By his hand we must be fed,
Give us Lord, our daily bread.
Amen.

Thank you for the world so sweet. Thank you for the things we eat. Thank you for the birds that sing. Thank you, God, for everything.
Amen
Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray Thee, Lord, thy child to keep: Thy love guard me through the night And wake me with the morning light.
Amen.

Dear Father, hear and bless Thy beasts and singing birds: And guard with tenderness Small things that have no words.
Amen
